Dolly-Parton

Born on Jan. 19 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn into a low-income family that would ultimately include 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of living through her vibrant and expansive imagination. She was writing songs before she could read or write. After getting her first guitar at the age of eight, she started performing on radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. Even though she became a local star while in High School, she knew her ambitions were greater. When she graduated from high school in 1964 she moved straight to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums for Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer to join his syndicated show from the beginning. Parton got her first gig in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, however, in 1974 because her solo albums such as Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene exceeded the sales of their joint albums. The two split in 1974, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it climbed to No. #1 for the first time in 1974.
